Dario Nardella

Biography

Dario Nardella was elected mayor of Florence in 2014. Besides leading the city, mayor Nardella also actively participates in various international organizations. In his teenage years, the family of Dario Nardella moved to the city of Florence. There, during his secondary education, Nardella developed a great passion for music. This resulted in his graduation in violin when he was 18. Besides his passion for music, Dario Nardella was also interested in law and social aspects of society. That is the primary reason why he enrolled into the Law School and achieved a Phd. Spheres he specialized in were the basis for his future work as politician: public and environmental law. After finishing his education, Dario Nardella showed great interest in politics. He understood the importance of quality governing and innovative ideas, which would greatly develop the city of Florence. This pushed him to pursue and establish himself in the political sphere. In 2004, he was elected member of the City Council. As his work was recognized by political elites, but also scientific circles because of his interest to improve and develop in this sphere, he was given a position in Chamber of Deputies in 2013. In this department of local administration, his work was most notable as a member of the Commission for Productive Activities, Trade and Tourism. During his work in the Commission, many innovative legislatures came in force. This climb-up through the political ladder of Florence prompted him to run for mayor, back in 2014. He won the elections, which also later enabled him to achieve a position of Mayor of Metropolitan City of Florence, in the beginning of 2015. Two main focuses that are constant throughout his work are public development and environment/ecology. His focus on public development involved three primary spheres: infrastructure, tourism and promotion of economy. His wish was to establish a network of local businesses, service companies and other aspects in order to maximise the functioning of the city. His environmental policy is closely related to European guidelines and European Green Act, which soughts to establish Europe as a climate neutral continent. This includes greenhouse gas emission reduction, which would be the most challenging part. As a mayor, Dario Nardella also signed the Green City Accord, which is one in the series of treaties regarding environmental issues. Dario Nardella, a man of great qualities and desires, managed to establish himself and his ideas internationally. This greatly helped the development of Florence and his own influence.
