Utrecht steps up aid to help residents weather the crisis
Utrecht is stepping up aid to cushion the blow of the crisis on the residents this winter.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Utrecht Sharon Dijksma stressed the importance of helping people in need, noting that cost of living is increasing.
Councillor Linda Voortman warned “the purchasing power crisis continues and prices will remain high in 2023 as well,” adding that the city is implementing additional measures to help its residents in difficult position.
“We pay special attention to families,” she noted “because children must have warm clothes this winter and be able to continue to participate with their peers.”
Utrecht authorities previously invited residents to say what they needed most and based the new aid measures on their responses, stressing that six new purchasing power measures will be implemented in 2023.
Besides direct aid, Utrecht will provide more money to charity organisations for distribution of aid and expand measures to reach more people.
Voortman noted that additional efforts will be made to overcome language barriers and reach residents who have little confidence in government authorities, stressing that Utrecht authorities want to help all residents in need.
As part of broader efforts to help residents weather the crisis, Utrecht will automatically provide residents who previously received energy allowances with additional allowances of EUR 500 in February.
