In Frankfurt, EURO 2024 preparations are in full swing
The German city of Frankfurt will be one of the ten host cities of EURO 2024, the European men’s football championship which is held every four years. Mayor of Frankfurt Peter Feldmann welcomed the delegation of Euro 2024 GmbH which paid a visit to the city to find out how preparations for this major sports event are going.
Mayor Feldmann stated on social media: ‘’The European Football Championship will kick off in Germany on June 14, 2024. The ball will then also be rolling in Frankfurt – the city on the River Main is one of the ten venues for Euro 2024. Preparations are already in full swing.’’
‘’To get an idea of the current state of planning in each of the host cities, a 30-member delegation from Euro 2024 GmbH is traveling to all ten host cities during the “Euro Weeks”. It makes us proud to be one of the host cities,’’ mayor Feldmann continued.
This will be the first time since reunification that Germany has hosted the UEFA European Championship. Back in 2006, Germany also hosted the FIFA World Cup. Nine of the stadiums which were used for the 2006 World Cup, as well as the Düsseldorf Arena, have been chosen to host matches of the EURO 2024.
The format of the competition will be the same as that of the 2020 edition. The top two national teams in each of the six final tournament groups, as well as the four best third-place finishers, will advance to the round of 16. In Frankfurt, matches will be played in Deutsche Bank Park.
‘’We want to show Europe and the world who we are: A city where everyone is welcome. A city that loves being a host. A city that loves soccer. And a city that likes to party – with fans from all over Europe,’’ mayor of Frankfurt Peter Feldmann stated.
Apart from Frankfurt, the EURO 2024 matches will also be played in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, and Stuttgart.(photo credit: uefa.com)
