Frankfurt has joined the Dresden Health Index project to monitor health in cities and develop a health index.

City authorities headed by Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Mike Josef pointed out that the project will help cities to improve health of residents.

Frankfurt noted that the environment has an effect on health and stressed that lots of green spaces and little noise are beneficial for health.

Other factors that play a role include income, education and access to healthcare, with city authorities pointing out that all relevant factors will be tracked to develop the health index.

Dresden’s Deputy Mayor for health Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann noted that many factors can have positive or negative effects on health.

“The better we understand and describe these connections, the easier it is for specialists from administration, healthcare and social protection, but also for committed companies and volunteers, to work in cities,” she pointed out.

The project will allow authorities to monitor the health of residents as well as social factors and environmental conditions, which will help them to paint a more accurate picture of the situation and calibrate the index.

City authorities concluded that the project will help local and regional health bodies to identify issues, propose targeted solutions and identify best practices, among other.
