Praunheim district in Frankfurt to welcome nearly 60 new passive houses

News

Frankfurt has approved a new housing project in Praunheim district, noting that architectural firm schneider+schumacher submitted the best concept.

City authorities headed by Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Mike Josef pointed out that nearly 60 apartments will be built in new passive houses in Praunheim.

Chairman of the jury Zvonko Turkali noted that five proposals entered the second round of the selection process.

He added that schneider+schumacher’s concept was chosen for its elegant design in line with the ‘New Frankfurt’ style and floor plans that promise a high quality of living.

The project includes an underground car park as well as small commercial units on the ground floor of the new building. Apartments will have between 2 and 5 rooms, and balconies.

City authorities noted that solar panels and connection to district heating will improve energy efficiency and limit the carbon footprint of the new building.

The project includes private gardens adjacent to the new building, a public green area and a green roof, which will increase the amount of greenery and improve biodiversity in the area.

The property is well connected to public transport, with the Heerstrasse underground station roughly a five-minute walk away.

As the new building is near the A5 motorway, it will be oriented to expose living rooms to the noisy west side and other rooms to the quiet east side.
