Frankfurt invites residents to join the conversation on urban development
Frankfurt’s agency for urban change opened its doors for one week at the end of March.
City authorities headed by Acting Mayor of Frankfurt Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg pointed out that the new body will help to increase resident participation and improve development of the city centre.
The test week promoted and facilitated dialogue between residents and city authorities, and concluded with a workshop on the future of urban development.
Project manager Andrea Schwappach noted that the city centre was missing “more than just a neighbourhood office… a place where the future of our city is actively shaped, where we collect all questions and ideas and where we look for new answers to the challenges of the future together.”
She added that urban development is a joint undertaking that needs to take into account diverse interests, perspectives and needs of residents, stressing the importance of open communication and close cooperation.
Councillor Mike Josef pointed out that the new agency sets an example of integrated development as it will help residents and authorities to discuss, coordinate and implement concrete urban development projects.
City authorities concluded that the new agency will act as a point of contact and coordination between municipal, private and civil society actors, and help to identify effective models of cooperation between them.
