Bologna redesigns Park of Montagnola to improve energy efficiency
Bologna is redesigning the Park of Montagnola with the aim of improving energy efficiency and redeveloping public spaces. Headed by Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the city is investing EUR 600,000 in the project with the help of EU funds.
City authorities pointed out that the old tensile structure torn down in recent months was not energy efficient, which is why a new one will be erected. It will comprise three pavilions to host events and serve a variety of functions, laboratory spaces and public toilets, among other.
The architectural design aims to highlight the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, and maximise the potential of the park in all seasons. The new structure will boast high energy efficiency and lower environmental impact. According to estimates, energy consumption will be cut roughly 57% thanks to use of modern technologies.
Authorities will plan four new trees to replace the two that will be removed as part of the redesign process, stressing that species will be picked based on CO2 absorption. Solar panels will be installed on the new structure to improve energy efficiency, while choice of building materials, lighting and ventilation will be focused on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Bologna authorities and pointed out that work has started and added that the project should be completed in approximately one year, concluding that citizens are invited to continue taking part in discussions aimed at tailoring the new design to the city’s needs.
