Bologna is planning to repurpose a former military area Sta.Ve.Co, which will become the future Parco della Giustizia to house new judicial offices.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore pointed out that the area will also boast new public green spaces.

The project will meet the logistical needs of the Ministry of Justice by providing modern offices, while approximately 9 hectares of outdoor areas will be turned into a large park for public use.

The move will allow the Ministry of Justice to concentrate its offices in a single location, which will lower its operating costs approximately EUR 5 million annually.

Some 35,000 square metres of buildings will be renovated, with about 7,000 square metres to be demolished and 3,000 square metres of new buildings constructed.

City authorities are planning to build approximately 400 new parking spaces as part of the project, stressing that the move is in line with urban planning standards.

New pedestrian and cycling paths will be built in the area and connected to existing infrastructure to improve mobility and make the new public park more accessible.

The buildings will be built in line with environmental standards and with a focus on sustainability, functionality and quality, with city authorities stressing that all buildings will be earthquake-proofed.
