Bologna launches project to raise awareness about eating disorders
Bologna has launched a project aimed at raising awareness about eating disorders in cooperation with the Dedalus association.
Under Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the city warned that eating disorders affect approximately 3 million people in Italy according to the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS).
The ISS pointed out that the figure increased roughly 40% in the coronavirus crisis.
As part of the project, Bologna will gather testimonies of young people with eating disorders and present them to the public in February next year.
The project focuses on young women and men between 18 and 35 years of age and their eating habits, with the Bologna Youth Office pointing out that it is aimed at raising awareness among citizens and institutions.
City authorities noted that the project will help citizens to understand eating disorders and ways to prevent them as well as offer education and training about pathological relationships with food.
Besides raising awareness, the project will help institutions and organisations that deal with eating disorders to collaborate on dissemination of knowledge and cooperate more effectively.
Bologna pointed out that testimonies of young people will be presented in video form to help viewers better understand the suffering of others and awaken empathy.
Bologna concluded that the project is the result of cooperation between local and regional authorities.
