Sustainable Development: Zagreb and Vienna to strengthen cooperation
Since most cities throughout the world share the same problems and concerns, it is critical for mayors to stay connected in order to address future difficulties in the most efficient manner possible.
Local leaders can benefit greatly by cooperating and working together whenever feasible in order to achieve the greatest potential results. An example of such cooperation is one that has recently been signed by the mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig and the mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomasević.
Mayor Ludwig stated on social media: ‘’The future lies in the cities. I am therefore pleased to continue the traditionally friendly cooperation between the City of Vienna and the city of Zagreb with my counterpart Tomislav Tomašević.’’
The mayor of the Austrian capital explained that the two cities signed a cooperation agreement that will help to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015.
‘’The main focus of the cooperation is, among other things, on the topics of sustainable urban development and mobility. Vienna is setting a good example here with its Smart Climate City strategy, with which we will make the city CO2-neutral.’’ Mayor Ludwig also stated.
Set to be achieved by 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 ambitious goals aimed at making the world a greener, healthier, more peaceful, and equal place to live.
