Mayor Tomašević’s vision: Modern, vibrant, green and smart Zagreb
On the 30th anniversary of Croatian-American diplomatic relations, a two-day conference titled “The US-Croatia Forum: A 21st Century Partnership” kicked off in Zagreb.
Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević and US Assistant Secretary of State for Education and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield opened a special program within the event, Young Leaders – The US – Croatia Forum, designed for young professionals from Croatia, N1 reported.
Given that the majority of the global population lives in urban centres, cities are in charge of organising many of the activities aimed at combating climate change. Mayor Tomašević expressed his hope that the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine would not cause fighting climate change to become less of a priority.
“I hope the pandemic and the war (in Ukraine) will not overshadow the need to fight climate change, which is one of the priorities at the global, national and local levels,” he stated.
Young Leaders – The US – Croatia Forum will focus on economic, scientific, and cultural cooperation between Croatia and the United States, with a special emphasis on young people. The first day of the forum also saw three panel discussions: “Building a Sustainable Future”, “Doing Business in the US” and “Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow”.
Furthermore, Mayor of Zagreb encouraged young people to take advantage of all opportunities to participate in exchange programs in order to “broaden their perspective.”
“My vision for Zagreb is a modern, vibrant, green and smart city. For that, we need you,” the mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević told the participants in the forum.
