Stuttgart invites residents to propose projects

Stuttgart has invited residents to submit projects as part of the seventh participatory budget project.

Lord Mayor of Stuttgart Frank Nopper reminded that the city introduced resident participation as part of the budgeting process in 2011.

He stressed that it has become a tradition thanks to excellent response and added that it is “one of the most successful participatory budgets in Germany.”

Nopper called on all residents to propose ideas and share their opinion on which areas the city should invest more or less in, pointing out that suggestions help the city to move forward.

Residents can submit their proposals online, over the telephone or by sending a letter, with city authorities pointing out that paper forms are available at the information desk at the city hall and district offices.

Identical and similar proposals will be merged and city authorities will evaluate them in February and March, during which period the proposals will be available online. After the evaluation process, city authorities will pick projects to be implemented during budget deliberations in autumn.

The city noted that the Stuttgarter Bürgerhaushalt offers consultations, inviting residents to ask questions and seek advice on their projects, adding that interested parties can discuss ideas and proposals with other users of the online platform.
