Bratislava implemented a brand new parking policy
Matúš Vallo has been serving as mayor of Bratislava since 2018. One of the fist policies he started to work on was the parking policy implementation in the city. He wanted to uniform the rules across Bratislava with a single company in charge. This Monday, the parking policy started applying in the city.
Mayor Matúš Vallo stated via social media: “A small change for some, but a big change for others. For some, this is finally a reason to register a permanent residence in a place where they have been living for years. But for me, it’s a historic day”.
Mayor Vallo continued: “I am convinced that PAAS (Bratislava Parking Assistant) is one of the most important steps for our city. I am deeply convinced that it will not only improve the way people park around their homes, but will also help with the start of other important processes. For example, that the sidewalks should belong, as is the case in other normal cities, to women, men, children, young, old, strollers and wheelchairs – that is, the people. At the same time, it will ultimately improve the flow of traffic in the city”
The parking policy was launched in the following zones: Krasňany in Rača, Tehelné Pole in Nové Mesto and Dvory 4 in Petržalka. Residents of these first three zones can park indefinitely at their place of residence purchasing the resident parking card at no additional charge.
Visitors to the regulated zone will pay an hourly rate for parking. The residence card for one car costs €39 per year. Households with more cars must pay €150 for the second car and €500 for the third.
“If we want to move our city further towards cities that we so often set an example, we sometimes have to do things that may not be pleasant for everyone right away. But we always carefully think about these things, deal with those with great caution.
If we want to move further, if we want to turn Bratislava into good example of European cities, we must accept things that are complex and we whose effects we will feel in a while. PAAS is one of the biggest reforms that is currently taking place in our city. I personally trust them very much”, mayor Matúš Vallo concluded.
