Bratislava opens its Centre for Reuse to put an end to unnecessary waste
Bratislava launched its Centre for Reuse in October after five rounds of the City Bazaar to promote reuse of items and cut waste. Mayor of Bratislava Matúš Vallo attended the opening of the Bratislava Centre for Reuse (KOLO), reminding that the city launched the first City Bazaar some two years ago.
He pointed out that the project saved the city roughly 50 tonnes of unnecessary waste as citizens donated and exchanged used but functional items. Vallo noted that the KOLO has an ecological as well as a social purpose and thanked everyone who helped to create it.
The KOLO opened on 8 October and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, with city authorities noting that it will be closed on Mondays. They encouraged citizens to visit and take any items they need as well as bring functioning items they no longer need, stressing that items for reuse must be complete, clean, functional and preserved.
KOLO pointed out that it accepts furniture, books, magazines, toys, prams, pools, kitchen utensils and appliances, gardening tools and equipment, school and office supplies, pet supplies and sports equipment, among other.
KOLO noted that it is located near IKEA and Avion shopping centres, and stressed that visitors can park nearby. The Climate Needs You initiative held a lecture on the importance of environmental protection as part of the KOLO launch, pointing out that proper sorting and recycling of waste is an important part of environmental protection.
