Nice launches metropolitan barometer of ecological transition
Nice has launched the metropolitan barometer of ecological transition to improve transparency and help residents track environmental progress.
Under Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi, the city is the first in France to launch a tool of this type.
City authorities pointed out that the tool will allow Nice to quantify progress on environmental issues and aid in the green transition.
The move will improve transparency by providing access to data and helping residents to track progress towards environmental goals.
The tool will help to monitor air quality and amounts of atmospheric pollutants, efforts aimed at decarbonisation of transport, energy consumption and production, amount of trees and greenery in the city and more.
The data will be validated by experts from universities and environmental authorities, with Nice stressing that the tool will help to lower greenhouse gas emissions and respond to new challenges including waste management and renovation of buildings.
Besides providing data, the tool will help residents to understand the main environmental issues and the city’s efforts to address them.
It will gather all relevant information on launched and planned environmental projects as well as provide residents with suggestions to help in the green transition.
City authorities stressed that the tool will help residents to evaluate their carbon footprint and make decisions on how to best contribute to the fight against climate change.
