Genoa led the group of 20 Italian municipalities, with councillor for sports and tourism Alessandra Bianchi noting “the work on promoting our city continues, with particular attention to proximity tourism.”

She pointed out that Italy and France are becoming increasingly connected, which creates opportunities to strengthen cooperation.

Bianchi reminded that Genoa will be the EU Capital of Sport in 2024 and stressed that the city’s sports offer is a driving force of tourism and development.

Genoa’s promotion focuses largely on indoor and outdoor sports offer and events, with city authorities noting that Genoa will host the finish of The Ocean Race 2022-2023.

Bianchi pointed out that Genoa is “fortunate, both from a landscape and a climate point of view,” which allows the city to offer a unique tourist experience.

She concluded that Genoa’s focus on sports plays an important role in development of the city, while national and international events have significant effect on flow of visitors.
