Mayor of Stuttgart welcomes new head of city‘s Economic Development Department

Mayor of Stuttgart Frank Nopper met with Bernhard Grieb, the new head of the city‘s Economic Development Department. The two officials discussed future plans for the economic development in the German city which has established a reputation as one of the country’s top locations for business.

Mayor Nopper stated on social media: ‘’The new head of the Economic Development Department, Bernhard Grieb, had his first day at work today. I am very pleased about this important appointment. Bernhard Grieb brings with him very good qualifications for the challenging task of economic development. And economic development is becoming even more important in times of the pandemic.’’

Grieb, who studied industrial engineering, has worked at Stuttgart’s VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH as a consultant and deputy head of the department for regional transformation processes and business growth since 2015. On subjects such as mobility and innovation policy, digitization, and demographic transition, the firm advises numerous federal and state ministries, the European Commission, and the financial sector.

‘’In our conversation, Bernhard Grieb told me that he would like to realign business development in Stuttgart with a strategy for the future. The concept should do justice to the transformation of the economy and take into account current success factors such as sustainability and innovative capacity,’’ mayor Nopper further stated.

Before becoming a consultant, Grieb also worked for eight years at the Bodenseekreis Economic Development Agency, where he was responsible, among other things, for skilled labour and location marketing, a technology cluster and events for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as activities for the start-up scene.

Furthermore, he also worked for the Ministry of Agriculture as head of the coordination office of the Economy 4.0 initiative until the end of February. (photo credit: Stuttgart official website)
