Mayor of Stuttgart Frank Nopper, together with Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann, opened the newly constructed Rosenstein Tunnel.

Mayor Nopper stated on social media: ‘’After Germany’s oldest tunnel, the Schwab Tunnel, we now also have the youngest one in our city. Today, together with Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann, I opened the Rosenstein Tunnel to traffic.’’

The 1.3 kilometres long tunnel is said to be one the largest infrastructure projects in Stuttgart. It is expected to largely improve the quality of life in Stuttgart’s Neckarvorstadt. The new Rosenstein tunnel is made up of two tunnel tubes that are equipped with cutting-edge operating and safety technology.

‘’As the city’s largest infrastructure project after Stuttgart 21, the B10 Rosenstein Tunnel offers great opportunities for the Neckar suburb and the Neckar river bank. We are not only improving an important traffic axis in Stuttgart, but also relieving residential areas of through traffic and gaining areas for more quality of life,’’ mayor Nopper further stated.

The B10 is one of the city’s and the surrounding region’s major thoroughfares. It connects the city’s business districts with the autobahn and the Neckar Valley’s neighbouring towns. In 2012, it was decided to strengthen this critical axis by implementing this large project.

The Rosenstein Tunnel road construction project is estimated to cost around 456 million euros. The project is supported by the state capital of Stuttgart and the state of Baden-Württemberg. (photo credit: Stuttgart official website)
