Mayor König Jerlmyr: Cities have an important role in protecting human rights
Stockholm Pride is back in full force following the hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mayor of Stockholm Anna König Jerlmyr attended the Stockholm Pride Parade event which took place last weekend.
The mayor of the Swedish city also met with representatives of several organizations active in the field of LGBTQI+ rights. Stockholm has long been known as an extremely open and free city that values and celebrates differences.
Mayor König Jerlmyr stated on social media: ”For me, it is important that the City of Stockholm is at the forefront of promoting the right of all people to be and to love who they want.”
”Stockholm has long been held up as a model in Europe when it comes to the rights of LGBTQ+ people, and we must continue to be so. It is therefore important that we share our experiences in order to push for improvements,” she continued.
The mayor of the Swedish capital also emphasized the big role cities play in safeguarding human rights.
”It is clear that cities have an important role to play in protecting and promoting human rights. In several countries in Europe, the trend is going in the wrong direction,” she also stated.
