Stockholm keeps fostering international collaboration in climate work
Cities around the world are a major source of emissions that contribute to global warming, but they can also play a significant role in combating climate change. Cities can much more effectively address urban concerns by collaborating and working with each other.
Mayor of Stockholm Anna König Jerlmyr participated together with numerous other world mayors in a board meeting of C40, a network of the world’s megacities committed to addressing climate change.
Mayor König Jerlmyr stated on social media: ‘’Mayor of London Sadik Khan began the meeting where I then updated on our climate conference Cities Stockholm + 50 High Level Forum where we gathered mayors, researchers and business leaders under one roof in Stockholm.’’
The mayor of the Swedish city also outlined three key takeaways from the event, which celebrated the anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which for the first time elevated environmental concerns to a top priority on a global scale.
Mayor König Jerlmyr stressed that it was essential to continue the collaboration between cities in order to share experiences, as well as that the cities together with the companies continue to take the lead in climate work. Furthermore, she also highlighted the importance of cities collaborating with innovative companies to drive development.
During the board meeting of the C40 network, the Mayor of Dhaka Atiqul Islam also talked about the increased migration that has come as a result of climate change. The numerous effects of climate change are leading to displacement and drastically deteriorating living circumstances in many different parts of the world.
