An educational center for hydrogen technology is to be built in the German city of Duisburg, the city announced in a press release.

Mayor of Duisburg Sören Link stated: “We see the needs of companies and employees here in Duisburg and the region. Many companies are planning to use hydrogen in their processes. But the employees must also have the opportunity to learn how the new technology is used.’’

The new facility will be located just next to the Hydrogen Technology and Innovation Center, which will be supported by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

Markus Bangen, CEO of Europe’s biggest inland port Duisport, says: “For years, Duisport has been committed to establishing climate-neutral transport structures and actively shaping the energy transition in the region’s transport and logistics sector. Hydrogen will play a central role in the future. It is all the more important to train specialist staff here at the site.’’

‘’We are therefore very pleased to be able to make the site available for the new H2 training center and thus make a contribution to the development of the site as a central hydrogen location in Germany and NRW,” Bangen further stated.

The new training centre will be implemented by the city of Duisburg and the Port of Duisburg in collaboration with the Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT) and the Essen Power Plant School (KWS).

The parties involved hope to get the project up and running as soon as possible and estimate that the new facility could be done by 2024. (photo credit: macrovector/Freepik)
