Two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the last key handover of the newly built single-family houses will take place in the Dellgrün district at the end of November. Lord Mayor Sören Link therefore planted the first tree in the open space together with urban development director Martin Linne and Marion Sett, managing director of the Aachener Siedlungs- und Wohnungsgesellschaft and Cornelia Hobbacher, head of the new building branch.

“It’s really great what was created here. In the Dellgrün we have created attractive and affordable living space for Duisburg, ”says Mayor Sören Link. 45 single-family houses, divided into 14 semi-detached houses and 31 terraced houses, have been built on the approximately 16,800 sqm area since construction began in 2018. A multi-family house with 15 condominiums is still under construction, the building application plans are currently being finalized for another one with four condominiums. Alderman Martin Linne adds: “The new quarter is characterized by its sustainable energy concept and, thanks to its attractive location, offers the opportunity to experience the urban diversity of the city of Duisburg in the immediate vicinity of your own front door.”

Before the Aachener Siedlungs and Wohnungsgesellschaft from Cologne was awarded the contract in the tendering process for the property, there was a decommissioned industrial complex belonging to the Duisburg commercial enterprise on the site. “We are doing real land recycling here. Affordable living space in attractive inner-city locations is a rare commodity. The ground here was largely sealed by large concrete surfaces. The name “Dellgrün” reflects the fact that we are also pursuing a sustainable concept with the quarter”, explains Cornelia Hobbacher, the Aachen branch manager responsible for the construction project. In addition to the generous green areas, the company’s own gas-powered combined heat and power plant, which supplies the new quarter via a local heating network, underlines the sustainable character of the settlement.

Dellgrün is one of three projects with a total of 127 residential units that the Aachen-based company is currently realizing in Duisburg. Five further construction projects in Duisburg with around 120 residential units are also currently in preparation.
