One of the world’s largest gaming centers opens in Stockholm
Mayor of Stockholm Anna König Jerlmyr has inaugurated a large gaming center in the Swedish capital which aims to become Sweden’s national arena for e-sports. The center named Space is located at Sergels Torg, a major public square in Stockholm, and stretches over 7 floors and 7,500 square meters.
Mayor of Stockholm Anna König Jerlmyr stated on social media: “Today I started the day by inaugurating SPACE with over 400 fully equipped gaming stations, which makes it one of the world’s largest permanent centers for gaming. These venues can be rented per hour or overnight and the venues will also be used for courses in programming, coding and game development to meet the new knowledge standards in schools”.
International e-sports tournaments will be held at the arena on the second floor. The events will be shown live on a stage with a 20-meter-wide screen. The arena will also be able to accommodate 550 spectators at the time. As for the computer equipment itself, the highlight is one of the best graphics cards on the market: Founders Edition RTX 3080.
The centre will also feature an interactive tribute exhibition dedicated to famous Swedish DJ Avicii. The exhibition titled Avicii Experience was inspired by ABBA museum and is set to open in early 2022. Space will also be cooperating with the police and security organizations to make sure a safe environment is maintained on all premises.
“The opening of SPACE will be part of the creative hub at Sergels torg and the area will combine gaming, music, e-sports and “content creation” for digital platforms with food and drinks as well as areas for work, collaborations, meetings and education. Here, everyone should have a place to play and develop digital skills regardless of their background,” mayor König Jerlmyr stated.
“The industry is growing all over the world, now we show what Stockholm can do,“ mayor König Jerlmyr concluded.
