Vilnius invites residents to shape the future of Šnipiškės district with new building project
Vilnius has opened a public discussion on the new administrative building project on Lviv Street.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius invited residents to familiarise themselves with the project proposal and comment on it.
According to the proposal, Inrega real estate company is to build a seven-storey administrative building in Šnipiškės, an emerging business district which is still in development.
City authorities are building new public spaces in the district, restructuring traffic with a focus on pedestrians and cyclists, and erecting new buildings.
Vilnius reminded that project proposals were selected through international competition and pointed out that the public discussion phase is aimed at gathering suggestions from the residents to improve the project.
The municipality will evaluate public comments and proposed project solutions before starting the process of approving the project.
Vilnius pointed out that the proposed administrative building will have total area of 24,700 square metres and added that approximately 800 people will work there.
An underground two-storey car park is to be built as part of the project to accommodate nearly 400 cars, with city authorities pointing out that 250 spaces for bicycles are planned as well.
Since the project includes removal of trees including maples and birches, city authorities decided to replace them and pointed out that roughly 20% of the plot in question will be vegetated, with 90 new trees to be planted.
