Vilnius plans new community centre, calls on residents to pitch ideas
Vilnius has announced plans to build a multi-purpose community centre, noting that a design competition will be launched in the coming period.
Under Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius, city authorities called on the residents to take part in a workshop to discuss the details of the plan and propose ideas.
As part of the project, Vilnius is planning to build a park and redesign the area to best suit the needs of the residents. Local community representatives stressed the importance of designing the community centre to blend in with the surrounding architecture and preserving as many trees as possible.
Community representative Rytis Pajaujis thanked Vilnius authorities for allowing the residents to contribute and express their ideas.
Tomas Gulbinas, Deputy Mayor of Vilnius, noted that city authorities have been planning to build a new community centre for a long time and stressed that the project will best suit the needs of the locals if they took part in planning.
Vilnius authorities stressed the importance of dialogue with the residents, whom they see as equal partners contributing to the success of projects.
Vilnius reminded that it organised seven similar workshops this year to incorporate the ideas and suggestions of local communities in projects including renovation of kindergartens and schools, among other.
