The Vienna Climate Team project continues in 2023, with the city inviting residents to propose ideas to make Vienna more environmentally friendly.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig reminded that the pilot project was launched in 2022 to strengthen cooperation between local authorities and residents on environmental projects.

Vienna allocated approximately EUR 6 million for the project this year, which is equal to roughly EUR 20 per resident.

Councillor for climate Jürgen Czernohorszky stressed the importance of close cooperation between residents, experts and district representatives, pointing out that response to the 2022 launch was positive.

He noted that preparations for 2023 projects have started and invited all residents to propose environmental projects for their districts to make them greener and more climate-friendly.

City authorities pointed out that residents can propose ideas online, after which they will be reviewed by experts and developed into projects through workshops.

As part of the project last year, residents submitted more than 1,100 ideas, of which 102 were developed into projects and citizen juries picked 19 to be implemented in the coming years.

City authorities invited all interested parties to take part in the initiative and concluded that projects can best serve local communities when they are designed in cooperation with residents.
