The city of Athens, led by mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, has been ranked as the best destination in the world according to a British research.
Athens was the top-ranked city for things to do while visiting the Greek capital. It came in second place for both hotels and nightlife. The research was conducted by Money.co.uk, an online comparison service which looked at which cities are the best-reviewed when it comes to hotels, restaurants, nightlife and things to do.
The city of Athens is one of the oldest inhabited cities on Earth which has a rich history. It offers many stunning places to visit, including the world-renowned Acropolis, which was built more than 2,400 years ago. In this survey, Athens had an overall score of 19.7%, ahead of second-placed Lisbon with 15.8%. Rhodes scored 13.7%
The research showed that 11.8% of hotels in Athens are five-star-rated by users and 0.6% of its restaurants are in the Michelin Guide, which is the ultimate hallmark of culinary excellence. Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants judged to be of a particularly high standard. Restaurants can be awarded one, two, or three stars, and the accolade is much-coveted by chefs around the world.
Furthermore, 33.6% of Athens nightlife establishments have a five-star rating, as do 44.1% of the things to do in the Greek capital.
