The great success of Poland’s biggest annual charity fundraiser
The last evening of Poland’s biggest annual charity fundraiser, The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, has been held in the city of Warsaw.
The fundraiser has been taking place every year since 1993. This year, as the previous ones, it has seen major success and has raised an incredible sum of money that will be donated to Poland’s healthcare system.
The final day of fundraising has raised approximately €30 million, which is the largest amount of donations ever collected. Furthermore, this is the 8th year in a row that the raised amount record has been broken.
This year’s event, under the slogan “See the light”, raised funds to improve standards of diagnostics and treatment of sight for children.
According to the charity’s website, several thousand patients are hospitalized in pediatric ophthalmology wards every year, many of them require surgery for which specialized equipment is needed.
Almost 120,000 volunteers helped during the charity despite the cold weather and the coronavirus. Many of them are children and young people.
“If something triumphed today, it is not necessarily the amount…but this enormous Poland from the most beautiful times and our solidarity that we always have within us when we want to find in ourselves friendship, love, and fraternity”, said Jerzy Owsiak, founder of the Great Orchestra.
