Mayor of Riga Mārtiņš Staķis took over the office term in 2020. With his inauguration as mayor of Riga, he brought various innovative and crucial projects to the city. Until now, different projects were presented and started, for example new infrastructure for bicycle paths or building of new and modern quarter of the city. Now, the idea presented by Mayor Staķis for a new acoustic concert hall is starting to come true.

Earlier this month, the Development Committee of the National Acoustic Concert Hall has supported the idea that Riga Congress House is an ideal location for this project.

Mayor Staķis said:”This decision made by the Development Committee is the conclusion of intense work in the past few months”.

Mayor of Riga envisioned this project as coordination between Latvian government and administration of the city. He stated: “The process should be similar to the one when we organized the music festival “Open Air”, where there was a joint effort by the government and the city”.

This means that the government should lend money for the whole project, while the city administration is tasked with construction and realization of the project. He also laid out the possibility of joint construction efforts for the concert hall, where the government would only co-fund the project.

This project also found great support from Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis. He stated: “Acoustic Concert Hall is currently the most important part of my work”. Furthermore, this project was also included in one of the declarations made by the government, which further promoted it and pushed its realization.

This presents an important step forward for the cultural life in Riga, since it will have a new gathering point for all music enthusiasts. This Acoustic Concert Hall is a great way for promoting cultural events in the city. (photo credit: Zane Bitere/LETA)
