Riga invites NGOs for collaborative urban development brainstorm
Riga has invited NGOs and neighbourhood associations to a public participation forum on 10 May.
City authorities headed by Mayor of Riga Mārtiņš Staķis pointed out that the forum is aimed at developing new ways of public participation.
Participants will discuss participation tools and development of neighbourhood associations in Riga at the panel discussion “Neighbourhood associations – the driving force of Riga’s development.”
They will examine the role of neighbourhood associations and their ability to protect the interests of the residents as well as ways to increase participation in neighbourhoods where no such associations have been formed.
City authorities announced plans to strengthen neighbourhood associations to help them serve their residents, noting that attendants of the forum will have an opportunity to propose and discuss ways to improve resident participation.
They will also propose and discuss new participation tools, ways to improve existing tools, the role of community centres and the future of the participation budget, among other.
City authorities invited residents to apply for the forum by filling out a registration form by 8 May and pointed out that Iveta Kažoka, director of Providus public policy think tank, will chair the forum.
Riga stressed the importance of public participation and concluded that residents should be involved in the shaping of urban development plans.
