Murcia modernises water and wastewater infrastructure
Murcia is modernising its water and wastewater infrastructure as part of the 2022/2023 Action Plan.
Headed by Mayor of Murcia José Antonio Serrano MartÃnez, city authorities pointed out that the Action Plan is worth roughly EUR 11 million, of which more than 50% is localised in districts.
City councillor for sustainable mobility Carmen Fructuoso and Aguas de Murcia utility head Inmaculada Serrano visited the neighbourhood where the utility is replacing existing water supply and wastewater management systems.
Besides rebuilding existing infrastructure, the utility is installing new pipes to increase the capacity of the local network.
It is also rebuilding roughly 110 metres of channel to make sure that surface waters stay separate from the wastewater system, stressing the importance of addressing erosion of flows near the network.
Approximately 325 metres of existing pipes will be rehabilitated and some 340 metres of new pipes laid down as part of the project.
The local project includes installation of 13 new manholes and 19 additional network connections, with city authorities pointing out that the project is worth approximately EUR 270,000 and is to be completed in roughly three months.
Murcia reiterated that a package worth roughly EUR 6.1 million from the 2022/2023 Action Plan is allocated for district projects.
