Murcia helping people with disabilities to balance work and family life
Murcia provided the Association for Treatment of People with Cerebral Palsy (Astrapace) with EUR 33,000 to implement a project aimed at improving autonomy of people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.
The city headed by Mayor of Murcia José Antonio Serrano MartÃnez pointed out that the project is aimed at helping adults from 18 to 65 years of age to live outside the family unit.
As part of the project, Astrapace will organise activities to improve quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, help them balance work and family life, and promote the development of their individual abilities, among other.
The organisation will prepare activities for people with disabilities and their families to dispel false fears and preconceived ideas about what independent living entails.
City authorities pointed out that access to a semi-independent housing model will be facilitated to improve quality of life while providing comprehensive care and maintaining autonomy of project participants.
The project also focuses on social inclusion of participants as well as development of basic skills for life at home and in the community.
Astrapace was founded in 1980 to provide treatment to people with cerebral palsy and related disorders, with Murcia City Council supporting the organisation since 2000.
As part of its efforts, the city provided Astrapace with grants and cooperated with the organisation on implementation of projects to support people with disabilities and their families.
