Milan launches child-friendly mobility projects in Lambrate district

Milan is preparing mobility projects in Lambrate district aimed at making the city more child-friendly and improving safety.

Headed by Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, city authorities invited residents to take part in the projects to develop Milan in line with needs of all residents, including the youngest ones.

As part of the projects, residents and representatives of local authorities will discuss urban development plans and ways to raise awareness about safety of children in traffic.

City authorities noted that, according to plans, routes to schools will be marked and colour-coded to help children navigate the city.

In addition, outdoor classes will be organised to help children develop the skills needed to move about safely and with confidence. This will help them to explore nature, the city and the world outside their classrooms.

Councillor Gaia Romani stressed that developing the areas around schools through the projects will promote autonomy of young boys and girls.

She reminded that projects received strong public support and were drawn up in cooperation with neighbourhood associations, reiterating that the projects will promote outdoor learning and mobility.

Romani concluded that close cooperation between local authorities and residents is necessary to prepare and implement projects tailored to meet the needs and desires of local communities.
