Lyon launches new park development project

Lyon has launched a park development project aimed at making natural spaces more accessible to the residents.

Under Mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet, city authorities decided to build paths, gardens and make other interventions in the Parc des Balmes.

City authorities noted that preliminary studies have been completed to guide planned development of this large natural space in the heart of the city.

Building new paths will make it easier for residents to enjoy nature or take part in recreational or sports activities, especially for people who live in neighbourhoods that lack natural spaces.

New paths will connect parts of the city that are currently not connected directly, which will improve quality of life for pedestrians.

City authorities reminded that Lyon committed EUR 200,000 in March 2021 to carry out preliminary studies and noted that design studies will be entrusted to a project management group in line with public procurement rules.

These studies will confirm economic and technical feasibility while taking into account geotechnical aspects of the project.

As part of the project, Lyon authorities will launch a consultation process with residents and people who use the area as well as land owners and other interested parties.
