Lisbon is focusing on the future of mobility
A growing number of European cities are starting to pay more attention to the future of mobility, and are constantly working on securing more efficient transportation networks for their residents.
One of the cities with a strong focus on mobility is also the Portuguese capital Lisbon. Recently, mayor of Lisbon Carlos Moedas met with the representatives of the non-profit organisation MUBi – Associação pela Mobilidade Urbana em Bicicleta.
Mayor Moedas stated on social media: ‘’Meeting with MUBi – Association for Urban Mobility in Bicycle was held to talk about the future of mobility in Lisbon. An integrated mobility where pedestrians, bicycles and cars coexist and where investment is made in a more comprehensive, frequent and comfortable public transport network.’’
MUBi’s mission, according to the organization’s website, is to help establish conditions that allow anybody to use a bicycle in a simple, enjoyable, efficient, and safe manner. Furthermore, they are also advocating for the benefits of this type of transportation to be widely recognised.
One of their goals is to constructively participate in the discussion and development of projects, as well as the decision-making of bodies responsible for the management of public transportation, such as the Central Government, the Republic’s Assembly, Metropolitan Transport Authorities, Municipal Councils, and others.
Cycling has various advantages, and in this time of global climate crisis, bicycles can be a key tool in the transition to a zero-carbon future. Bicycles are a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation, they are less expensive, take up less space, and provide efficient transportation with no carbon emissions.
