Mayor Dipiazza in favour of the new Summer institute in Trieste
Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza, President of the FVG Region Massimiliano Fedriga and Prof Stefano Fantoni signed the letter of request to the government to create in Trieste the Summer Institute of international importance for science, innovation and sustainability.
Institute would be dedicated to the multidisciplinary study and promotion of the fundamental principles of Sustainability Science and its applications in physical, computational, biological and social systems.
“Thanks to President Fedriga who gave us a hand in Porto Vecchio, Councilor Tonel and prof. Fantoni, today we are planting a seed that will bring us very important harvests in the next few years following Esof2020. It is a dream that will materialize into something great for the city and the territory”, said Mayor of Trieste Roberto Dipiazza when signing the letter.
“It is an international initiative through which we ask the Government to set up a Summer Institute in Trieste, in the Porto Vecchio area, a meeting point between science, innovation and training, between professionals and local start-ups. Only the united community can overcome the ‘it cannot be done’ to make that area of the city attractive and give life ”- Fedriga underlined.
“The project develops in the context already started by Esof2020 which has brought significant interest to Trieste”, said prof. Fantoni. “A city that wants to become the place where science engages in scientific and sustainability issues, where great industry managers meet with industry experts. Research must be multidisciplinary and setting up a Summer Institute – a high-level attraction – means being able to bring Nobel laureates and scientists from all over the world here, also thanks to the strong tourist value of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region and Trieste. We have already received requests and we are ready to welcome and organize activities within it ”.
