Which Italian city will host Eurovision 2022?
After being cancelled last year, Eurovision 2021 took place in Rotterdam in front of 3,500 persons.
Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb, declared the Eurovision Song Contest officially open and commended organisers on the achievement of hosting a Contest under difficult circumstances.
Italy’s alternative rock band Måneskin, with the song Zitti e buoni, won the contest which means that Italy will host Eurovision next year for the first time after 1991 when Toto Cotugno brought the contest thanks to the song “Insieme”.
A call for tenders to host the 2022 edition will be launched soon and all cities will be able to submit their candidacy. Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi has already proposed the City of Rome to be the host for Eurovision 2022. She said through social media: “Måneskin’s victory is fantastic. Rome is proud of its boys. Next year, Italy will host Eurovision. Rome is the perfec stage to realunch the challenge”.
Other Italian mayors also offered their cities to become Eurovision 2022 host, such as Turin, Naples, Bologna, Milan and Pesaro.
When in 2016 Italy entered the contest as bookies’ favourite song, Turin was already identified as a potential venue for next year, so it’s no surprise that Mayor of Turin Chiara Appendino stated that Turin is already preparing the official bid for Eurovision 2022.
