Green area reopening promotes socialisation and integration in Messina
Mayor of Messina Federico Basile reopened the pine forest in Montepiselli and announced plans to protect the area as part of broader environmental efforts.
Basile pointed out that the city officially returns the green area to the residents and added that it has been made accessible to all with the aim of promoting socialisation and integration.
City authorities noted that benches and play areas for children have been added along with a book sharing house to encourage cultural exchange and spending time in nature.
Children will have an opportunity to play, socialise and learn about the environment in an area tailored to them and full of positive stimuli, which will have positive effects on their physical and mental development.
Residents can apply for planned activities online to help their children learn about nature and develop communication skills and personal autonomy.
Messina pointed out that outdoor education, sports and cultural events will be organised in the area and added that the playground project received the Nearly Zero-Energy Building (NZEB) certificate thanks to technologies and materials used in construction.
City authorities installed a beehive in the pine forest to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators for a healthy ecosystem.
