Essen draws up development plan for Katernberg suburb
Essen has drawn up a development plan for Katernberg suburb and presented it to the residents.
City authorities headed by Lord Mayor of Essen Thomas Kufen pointed out that the development plan takes into account environmental impact on the area.
The plan includes building a green area and residential development, including the construction of a new day-care centre. Essen will also build a public playground in the area to provide content for its younger residents.
City authorities noted that approximately 30 apartments will be built in the area between Plänkerweg and Feldwiese streets, which is close to the Katernberg centre and adjacent to open green spaces.
Essen approved the development plan in December last year, when green parliamentary group spokesman Christoph Kerscht noted that the plan “is a mix that will really improve the suburb.”
His counterpart from the Christian Democratic Union Sven Köhler pointed out that the party welcomes the project and added that Essen will build attractive new housing.
“In addition, a day-care centre with four groups and a shared apartment for people with dementia” will be built as part of the project, he concluded.
The development plan will be available for public viewing from 10 January to 10 February at the Office for Urban Planning and Building Regulations.
Essen invited all interested parties to learn more about the urban development plan online.
