Uppsala actively works on a more sustainable future
Tomas Eneroth, Sweden’s Minister of Infrastructure, has visited Uppsala to learn more about how different key actors collaborate on sustainable development and electrification in this Swedish city. He was welcomed by the mayor of Uppsala Erik Pelling.
Mayor Pelling stated on social media: ‘’Happy faces when Minister for Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth visited us in Uppsala today! We showed how sustainable construction can look in practice in Rosendal.’’
‘’Of course, I also highlighted the importance of the government delivering on its promise to build four rail tracks between Uppsala and Stockholm,’’ mayor of Uppsala continued.
On the section between Uppsala Central Station and the county border with Stockholm, the Swedish Transport Administration has been tasked by the government to explore an extension with two more tracks and new stations.
Two additional tracks will be built from Uppsala to the county border between Uppsala and Stockholm, totaling around 23 kilometers. At Bergsbrunna and Alsike, two additional stations will be constructed.
The project known as Fyra spår Uppsala (Four rail tracks Uppsala) is set to improve the railway connection between the Swedish capital Stockholm and Uppsala. Adding new rail tracks on the route is meant to improve accessibility, as well as to boost safety and the number of departures.
Minister Eneroth also met with representatives from the STUNS foundation, which brings together key participants from the region, municipality, university, and business sector to work on a green transition and electrification.
Furthermore, Minister Eneroth also talked with representatives of a Swedish multinational engineering company Sandvik in Östhammar to learn more about their electrification efforts, as well as Grangex, which wants to open Sweden’s first fossil-free mine in Dannemora.
