Rome, Milan, Bolzano, Bari, Ferrara, San Giorgio, Cremano – these are just some of the Italian cities whose mayors have already officially shown their willingness to welcome Afghan refugees.

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala is already working on locating suitable places to host Afghan citizens who will apply for refugee status. He stated: “These places cannot be improvised but must be equipped with the appropriate basic services for hosting families. A few dozen Afghan citizens with their families will reach our city”.

Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi previously said: “The city will make its facilities available for Afghan refugees, women, students, children and whoever is about to be repatriated from Afghanistan following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban”.

Mayor of Ferrara Alan Fabbri declared: “We are ready to welcome the refugees arriving from the humanitarian crisis”.

Mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro, who is also the president of the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), offered his city’s willingness along with other ANCI cities to “expand the Reception and Integration System (SAI) network, in terms of providing specific places for Afghan collaborators and their families”, reports Infomigrants.
