Cars are out, socializing is in
The mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro inaugurated the new Piazza Disfida di Barletta in the Libertà district: “We took off the cars and recovered our gregariousness. People can sojourn in the square, children don’t have to watch out of cars “.
A project from 1883, this square was to welcome travelers arriving from the north of Bari. “Today we made it for the Libertà district, which has never had spaces for socializing ”, said Decaro.
The project was financed with 650 thousand euros and involved the construction of fountains, the arrangement of 26 trees, 12 flower beds, 22 wood-steel benches (16 with the backrest), 24 low-consumption LED lights, four video surveillance. Among the novelties also the lowering of vehicle speed in neighboring via Napoli and the leaving the space for pedestrians on a short stretch of the road facing via D’Azelio.
