Bari has organised free workshops for youth with a focus on civic participation and professional training.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro noted that 60 young people will have an opportunity to attend free training courses and civic engagement workshops.

The move is part of Bari’s Social Innovation Freedom project and is designed to help youth take a more active role in the planning of urban development projects and propose changes in their neighbourhoods.

Besides training courses, the project will offer internship opportunities and help attendants to assess the needs of their neighbourhoods with regard to social and urban development.

City authorities stressed that the project is aimed at youth empowerment and will be implemented in cooperation with municipal bodies and partners.

It will improve employability of attendants by helping them to hone their skills while promoting civic activism and bottom-up development of neighbourhood projects.

The project is worth roughly EUR 450,000 and supported by more than 20 local organisations and bodies involved in environmental and social activism, culture and design.

As part of the project, 60 young people will attend courses and workshops organised by the Civic Processing Laboratory (LEC), the Training Factories (FF) and the Business Nursery (VDI).
