In total, there were more young college graduates, who applied for summer jobs through the municipality in 2020 than in 2019. The reason may be that the number of summer jobs decreased drastically in the private labor market and that more families chose to stay at home in the summer of 2020 than in previous years.

Uppsala municipality has a summer job guarantee program for all college graduates. Every college graduate who applies for a summer job can get a paid job. This year the initiative even introduced a collaboration with the social administration for young people who are in grades seven and eight and who live in Gottsunda. The next step is a special investment in the younger grades for part-time jobs during the autumn school break and weekends.

Examples of new summer jobs in Uppsala and its surroundings are student employment at leisure centers and leisure clubs in many swimming areas, cleaning, park work, and on public transport buses lines.

As a result of more jobs being requested, the labor market administration offered supervisor compensation for workplaces that could not fund extra summer labor.

A total of 2,384 young people was offered summer jobs in the various forms during the summer of 2020 in the Uppsala municipality.
