Queen of Spain helped out with Alicante’s beach major clean-up

As in many places around the world, beach pollution is a major issue in Alicante as well. During the summer season, millions of locals and tourists visited the famous Almadraba beach in the city and the foundation Birdlife of Libera and Ecoembres organized a big clean-up.

Queen of Spain decided to support this campaign by joining the crowd directly on the beach and she helped out in removing the trash from the beach.

For this occasion, mayor of Alicante Luis Barcala stated: “It is an honour for Alicante to welcome Queen Sofia in order to make increasingly visible the need to keep our beaches and natural areas clean. I praise the exemplary civic, social and environmental commitment of Her Majesty in the face of this global problem”.

Queen Sofia, King Felipe VI’s mother, was present at the International Beach Cleanup Day, the initiative in Alicante on behalf of the Reina Sofia Foundation, which regularly participates in outreach campaigns to prevent and solve marine pollution in Spain, reports Murcia today.
