Nantes: 6 new measures to support the local economy
Rent aid, deployment of e-commerce, postponement of tourist tax… Nantes Métropole, led by Mayor Johanna Rolland, has developed economic measures to build a support plan for its citizens.
This is the second part of the support plan for the local economy, initiated in March 2020, when the first confinement was taking place. At the time, several emergency measures had been put in place to help the businesses with overcoming the first confinement period (exemptions from the payment of public space occupation in the city de Nantes, the local tax on outdoor advertising for Nantes, rent payments for companies located in the public heritage of the City whose activity had been suspended due to confinement, etc.).
At the end of the year, a plan made up of six measures will be submitted for approval to the City Council on December 11.
750 euros rent aid for November
Shops affected by an administrative closure decision will be granted a flat-rate subsidy of € 750 (capped at the actual amount of rent). 4,500 businesses are involved in the metropolitan area, including 1,600 bars and restaurants. This aid targets in particular the smallest rents and therefore very small businesses, considered to be the most fragile. In total, this measure is valued € 3.5 million.
November rent exemption for companies hosted in the Nantes Métropole real estate park
Business incubators and businesses in the creative and cultural industries hosted by the Creative Factory will not have to pay their rent for the month of November. This concerns more than 200 companies.
Boost for the deployment of e-commerce
Created during confinement, the platform Ma Ville mon shopping allows consumers to purchase products from local merchants online. 1,700 traders are registered, and the site has accumulated more than 4,000 daily visits last week. To support this dynamic platform, Nantes has intervened with La Poste (of which Ma Ville mon shopping is a subsidiary) to develop a more functional version of the platform. A strong communication campaign was also carried out. Finally, the Plein Center association has been made available free of charge of premises in the former School of Fine Arts in Nantes, to create a collective “Click & collect” collection point for downtown merchants who opened on Monday 23 November. The upgrading of the premises was taken care of by the City of Nantes.
Extension of the exemption from the public space occupancy fee for traders
The exemption from the public space occupancy fee will be extended for 6 months, until June 2021 for traders in the City of Nantes.
Postponement of the visitor’s tax collection
Usually operated in January, the payment of the tourist tax will be postponed for six months, until July 31, 2021. This is a measure which will help to preserve the cash flow of hotel professionals.
Compensation for Christmas market traders
Nantes Métropole is working on a transactional protocol with the company 2A in order to compensate the 116 traders who have reserved a chalet on the Christmas market, which was canceled due to the pandemic. The amount will be discussed with the company 2A Organization.
