Vigo launches project aimed at attracting filmmakers and promoting the city
Vigo has launched a project aimed at attracting filmmakers and promoting the city as a filming studio.
Mayor of Vigo Abel Caballero noted that he is very excited about the project, stressing that it is a first for Vigo.
As part of the project, Vigo launched a short film competition dubbed Christmas Stories of Vigo in 90 Seconds. The move is aimed at encouraging audiovisual creation around Christmas in Vigo.
Vigo launched the project in cooperation with the Vigo Film Office, inviting filmmakers to submit audiovisual pieces no longer than 90 seconds.
The films have to focus on Christmas in Vigo, but participants can submit stories of any genre. The films must be shot in Vigo and promote the heritage, culture and historical value of Christmas in the city.
Vigo Film Office head Amaia Mauleón pointed out that the project offers residents an opportunity to see the city from a different perspective and added that submissions from outside Galicia are welcome.
City authorities noted that seven submissions will receive prizes worth EUR 2,600 in seven categories, including best short film by a minor and best film by an author from outside Galicia, among other.
City authorities called on filmmakers to submit their works by 10 January next year and concluded that winners will be chosen by a jury comprising representatives of the film industry, the Vigo Film Office and the City Council.
