Toulouse invites residents to support blood drive
Toulouse has invited its residents to support the blood drive to top up reserves.
Headed by Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc, city authorities noted that January is traditionally slow when it comes to blood donations due to bad weather and the flu season.
In addition, blood supplies are depleted more than usual during Christmas holidays, which makes January especially sensitive.
City authorities noted that the local blood bank has approximately 6,500 units in reserve and needs about 9,500 to meet the needs of patients.
Toulouse reminded that the My Blood for Others blood drive was launched in 1998 and will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, reiterating that approximately 3,000 donations are needed to top up reserves.
Residents took part in all previous blood drives and My Blood for Others has become a mainstay in Toulouse.
This year, the Toulouse Football Heart Foundation and the Ville Rose football club will support the drive, with managing director of the club and players to attend this year’s launch. In addition, the club and players are promoting the blood drive at matches and on social media.
City authorities pointed out that donating blood is an extraordinary experience in the service of a noble cause, noting that approximately 300 volunteers will welcome and support donors in a warm and festive atmosphere.
