Malmö has renovated Sege Park and invited residents to the reopening ceremony on 13 May.

City authorities headed by Mayor of Malmö Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh reminded that the park was built in the 1930s and pointed out that it has been modernised.

Besides new vegetation, the park now boasts a new playground, a barbecue area and an area for dogs, which will make it more functional and attract more visitors. The move will improve air quality and have positive environmental and health effects.

Councillor Elin Einarsson noted that the park has been completed as residents have started to move into the neighbourhood and added that adults and children will be able to enjoy it.

She stressed that the playground was built at the edge of the forest to encourage families to spend more time in nature and concluded that renovation of cycling paths and addition of new entrances made the park more accessible.

Development of the neighbourhood is focused on sustainability and ecology, with city authorities pointing out that the park is no exception. The renovation has increased biodiversity in the area as newly planted trees and shrubs attract insects and birds.

Malmö noted that the park is a large green area close to the city centre and concluded that the renovation preserved cultural and historical heritage while modernising the park and making it more functional.
