Saint-Étienne’s “Habitat et Métropole”: a new public housing office
The Mayor of Saint-Étienne Gaël Perdriau underlined: “The objective is to continue to work for the quality of life of our fellow citizens. The creation of this new DPO Habitat et Métropole will make it possible to have a strategy more consistent across the country.”
The elected officials of Saint-Étienne Métropole approved, Monday, October 5, 2020, the creation of a new Public Housing Office (OPH): “Habitat et Métropole”. This will be launched on January 1, 2021.
The four Public Housing Offices (OPH Firminy, OPH Gier-Pilat Habitat, OPH Métropole Habitat Saint-Étienne, OPH Ondaine Habitat) will form “Habitat et Métropole”, a single Public Housing Office on January 1, 2021, or 18,289 housing units.
This merger, approved by the elected officials of Saint-Étienne Métropole during the metropolitan council of October 5, 2020, is the result of an approach initiated in 2018, in order to create a DPO that is an actor and engine of the development of the territory.
This new “Habitat et Métropole” DPO attached to Saint-Étienne Métropole will bring together 40% of social housing in the territory, and will be an asset in the desire to strengthen the attractiveness of the social housing stock in the Metropolis.
An investment plan of 430 million euros over the period 2018 – 2025
Over the period 2018 – 2025, a program of nearly 430 million euros, of which nearly 30 million euros in financing from Saint-Étienne Métropole will be devoted to the rehabilitation of 4,191 housing units, the demolition or removal of 1 057 housing units, and the construction of 1,084 housing units.
